Chapter 9: Prophecies Conferred on Learners and Adepts [Ninki]
The sutra states, "I now declare among [you] monks that Ananda, keeper of the Law, shall pay homage to Buddhas and afterward accomplish Perfect Enlightenment." (3LS p. 181)
There is no 'Ananda' apart from us, the votaries of the Lotus Sutra. 'Ananda' means 'joy.' It is the joy of awakening to ichinen sanzen within ourselves. (Gosho Zenshu p 736)
